Your privacy is protected!

    The gist of it:

    • Cookies are only created for login, or third-party ads.

    • If you are using anonymous accounts, not even email is used and everything is anonymized.

    • Third party ads are collecting "data about usage, for example, to show personalised ads or to report on conversions". Read more about Google ads.

    • The app collects as little data as possible.

    • We will never spam you.

    Details

The service is made possible by subscriptions and ads, if you buy a subscription ads will be turned off, in fact, the code that govern them will not even run.

There are two types of ads, our own ads and third-party ads. Since we can control our own ads, we can make sure that no tracking or other fishy behavior is happening without your knowledge and for third-party ads we always use the highest privacy setting available.

    Blocking tracking images

Since feeds are just text with images in markup, a lot of what makes the web bad today is stripped away by default. Some feeds contain invisible "tracking pixels", small invisible images that allows advertisers to track you. These images are not loaded in your feeds.

    Blocking javascript

Javascript is what makes the web fun, but also slow. The Feeds-app don't process scripts in order to make the reading experience as fast and efficient as possible. This makes a lot of tracking and surveillance impossible, but also (as a side-effect) makes most ads disappear from articles, since they are loaded from scripts. To load javascript and the complete untouched original article - just tap it. Note that images, slideshows or videos are sometimes loaded from scripts as well.

    Cookie protection by default

The app prevents all cookies by default, for maximum privacy.

    Newsletters and marketing

I only send emails to customers who explicitly said they want to - and you can always opt out by clicking a link in the bottom of the email. Sometimes the service must send you emails no matter what, like when reseting passwords, verifying accounts and for sending receipts (after purchases). These must be sent to customers for me to fulfill my obligations as a service provider.

    Stored data

The application uses email and name when creating an account, which is needed to identify the account (you login via email). It is for resetting password (which is done by email). These are stored as long as you are a customer and you can delete your account at any time.

A cookie is stored to identify you as a user so you can stay logged in (if you have an account). The cookie is deleted whenever you log out, and expires by itself after 10 years.

In your account the following data is kept for each feed:

    • If it could be fetched and read
    • If you have unread articles
    • The date for which the last article was marked as read.

The app does not track if you actually read anything (or just scrolled by), which articles were downloaded or any other reading habits. The app needs this information to know if an article is new or old or if a feed is broken (it get's paused and not fetched for a while). In the future this information will also be synced across devices for a faster and a more consistent reading experience.

If you are using the free version (non-subscribed), then Google ads are used which is a closed source framework. They are promising to only use non-personal anonymized data, and all tracking is done in a non-violating manner. The app also has its own ads served directly from my servers, and those only your data as a filter (language is used to filter out ads in foreign languages). In the future there will be a URL filter that lets ads only be shown if you are subscribing to its website. So ads for a particular website are shown only to readers of that particular website. This means that the advertiser cannot track you, but you will still only be shown relevant ads. In order to making advertising both relevant and to respect users privacy.

The app sends crash logs (which only contain general information about what went wrong) and some device information (name, model, app version and os version) to track down bugs and make support easier. This data is purged from the system on regular intervals.

    Deleting data

If you created your account with an email address and want to delete your account's data, you need to delete your account and then delete the app from your devices.

Whenever you remove the app, the token linking your account to the data will be removed and can no longer be linked to you (as if it was anonymized).
